The Miami Marlins have traded right-handed starting pitcher Jordan Yamamoto to the New York Mets for minor-league infielder Federico Polanco, the teams announced Monday.

The Mets have designated infielder Robel Garcia for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.

Yamamoto, 24, made his major-league debut in 2019, authoring a 4.46 ERA and 4.51 FIP over 15 starts. The former 12th-round pick struggled in limited work last year, allowing 23 earned runs on 27 hits and seven walks in 11 1/3 innings while making three starts and one relief appearance. He made his lone relief appearance in a historic 29-9 drubbing against the Atlanta Braves and surrendered 12 earned runs on 11 hits - including four homers - over 2 2/3 innings.

Polanco, 19, hasn't played above rookie ball. The middle infielder owns a .244/.318/.324 slash line with 21 stolen bases and no homers over 120 games in the minors.
