Yadi agrees to 1-year deal with Cardinals: 'I'm back'
Yadier Molina isn't going anywhere.
The veteran catcher confirmed on Monday that he's returning to the St. Louis Cardinals for an 18th season.
The two sides agreed to a one-year, $9-million contract without an option for the 2022 season, sources told Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Molina's deal also includes award bonuses and a full no-trade clause, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman.
The nine-time All-Star owns a .281/.333/.404 slash line with 160 home runs over 2,025 games. He's coming off a 2020 season where he hit .262 with four homers over 42 games.
The move isn't surprising, as Molina was expected to reach an agreement with the Cardinals after playing in the recent Caribbean Series.
Molina rejoins his longtime batterymate Adam Wainwright, who also re-upped with the Cardinals on his own one-year contract in late January.
