Kershaw: 'I don't know' about new deal with Dodgers after this season
Could 2021 be the final season of Clayton Kershaw's illustrious career?
Kershaw is entering the last year of his contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers and appears uncertain about signing a new deal.
"I don't know," the three-time Cy Young winner told Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times when asked if he wants an extension from the team. "Honestly, I wish I had an answer."
Kershaw has pitched his entire career with the Dodgers, who drafted him seventh overall in 2006.
Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman confirmed there haven't yet been extension talks, though he said he wants Kershaw to remain in Los Angeles if he continues pitching.
"Obviously, it's personal for him and (Kershaw's wife) Ellen," Friedman said. "But I feel like all is right in the world if he finishes his career, whenever that is, in however many years, as a Dodger."
Kershaw admitted he lacks his previous motivation after winning a World Series title with the Dodgers in 2020.
"I wasn't as enthused to get back going again, which is a good thing," Kershaw said of his offseason preparation for the upcoming campaign. "It's a great problem to have. I think every offseason in the past it's been, 'I just want to get this done. I just want to do it, do it, do it.' And there's this passion and it just constantly builds and builds and builds.
"And now the pressure is just because we have a great team and we're supposed to win. That's awesome."
