Rangers sign Brock Holt to minors deal
The Texas Rangers and infielder Brock Holt have agreed to a minor-league deal, the team announced Friday.
The deal will pay the former All-Star $1.75 million if he makes the majors out of spring training, and he can earn an additional $750,000 in incentives, reports Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
Holt reportedly had major-league offers from other teams but preferred the Rangers due to the opportunity to play third base. Texas currently has Nick Solak, Rougned Odor, and Charlie Culberson vying for playing time at third and second base.
Holt played for both the Milwaukee Brewers and the Washington Nationals during the 2020 season, hitting .211/.283/.274 with one stolen base in 36 games.
The 32-year-old utility man spent the previous seven years with the Boston Red Sox, posting a .270/.340/.374 slash line over 615 games while primarily playing second base, third base, and outfield.
Texas also announced the minor-league signings of catcher John Hicks and left-handed starter Hyeon-jong Yang.
