Watch: White Sox star Moncada releases 1st music video
Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada may have some new walk-up music for the 2021 season featuring ... himself?
Moncada has been busy this offseason. On top of preparing for the upcoming campaign, the 25-year-old has been in the studio recording multiple songs. One of which, "Desastre Personal" featuring Cuban singers Lenier and El Chacal, can be found on streaming services and now has an accompanying music video:
"It started out as a hobby, meaning I always loved to sing at home," Moncada told MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez. "But one day, I published a song on Instagram singing one of Lenier's songs, a Cuban singer, and he responded to me! We talked about getting together for a song when I was in Miami, that opened the door for me. That's how I got my first song.
"A lot of fans like the music," Moncada continued. "I've seen it on Instagram, Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. They are having a good time with it. At first, I didn't want to sing. I'm a baseball player, but I like music, too."
Moncada has 692 monthly listeners on Spotify as of this writing.
For his sake, let's hope Moncada racks up more hits on the diamond than from inside the studio.
