Spencer Torkelson is a talented baseball player. However, his kitchen game needs a bit of work.
Torkelson, who the Detroit Tigers selected first overall in last June's draft, will miss some time after cutting his finger in a kitchen accident this week.
While making dinner at his home, the team's top prospect - in need of a can opener - attempted to open a can with a wine opener's serrated knife, sources told Chris McCosky of the Detroit News. But the wine opener folded up on Torkelson and sliced his right index finger.
He required three stitches to close the wound. Fortunately for Torkelson, the cut didn't damage any muscles or tendons in his finger, according to McCosky. The 21-year-old made light of the situation on Twitter.

While not a serious injury, manager AJ Hinch said Torkelson will miss the team's first few Grapefruit League games. He did participate in non-throwing fielding drills Thursday, but will still be "limited" for a couple of days, Hinch said.
Some extra drills with the team chef may also be in store.
"I guess part of his development is going to be opening a can," Hinch quipped.
