Yankees' Frazier conflicted about playing Jays in Florida: 'It's way different'
The Toronto Blue Jays will open the 2021 season playing at their spring training facility in Dunedin, Florida, and at least one opponent is not excited about it.
"It's way different," New York Yankees outfielder Clint Frazier said, according to Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News. "It obviously doesn't have the third deck. Really high skies, there's not a lot of clouds out there, the winds blowing like crazy. It's just, it's hard out there.
"It's hard to see because of the way that seats have all the reflections off of them. It's a typical spring training place that, unfortunately, we're gonna have to play at a few times probably."
Due to border restrictions caused by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the Blue Jays are the only MLB team opening the upcoming season without a true home ballpark.
"Just like other stadiums, they all have their things you have to work around whether it's sometimes the sun sets in left field and the left fielders getting crushed by the sun," Frazier continued. "Unfortunately, it seems like there's a couple more things piled on top of things you have to deal with."
While Frazier aired his grievances with the situation, Yankees pitcher Jordan Montgomery seemed positive about the park.
"I liked it," the left-hander noted. "I mean, it was a good mound. Good playing surface. It just felt like a big-league ballpark. I'm so glad we're playing there ... But it's just like pitching anywhere."
The Blue Jays open the season against the Yankees in New York. The Yankees visit TD Bank Ballpark for the first time during the regular season for a three-game set beginning April 12.
