Yankees trade Tauchman to Giants for Wandy Peralta, PTBNL

The New York Yankees have traded outfielder Mike Tauchman to the San Francisco Giants for left-handed reliever Wandy Peralta and a player to be named later, the team announced Tuesday.

Tauchman, 30, is off to a rough start in 2021, hitting .214/.267/.286 with two steals through 11 games. The veteran outfielder enjoyed a breakout 2019 campaign, authoring a 128 wRC+ with 13 homers and six stolen bases over 87 contests. He was originally an injury replacement before earning more starts.

Tauchman joins a Giants squad currently leading a tough NL West division. Entering Tuesday, the Giants' outfield ranks 20th in the majors, according to FanGraphs' wRC+. Tauchman, Mike Yastrzemski, and Alex Dickerson are now left-handed hitting outfield options for the club, while Darin Ruf, Austin Slater, and Mauricio Dubon are righties.

Peralta, 29, owns a 4.72 ERA and 4.84 FIP over six big-league seasons spent with the Cincinnati Reds and Giants. In 8 1/3 innings this year, the southpaw has posted a 5.40 ERA and 3.81 FIP while notching two saves.

The last-place Yankees possess the best relief corps in the majors this season, according to FanGraphs WAR. However, aside from closer Aroldis Chapman, prior to the trade the team's only left-handed options were Justin Wilson and Lucas Luetge.
