Report: Blue Jays' Kirk expected to miss 6 weeks with hip flexor strain
The Toronto Blue Jays have lost another significant piece to injury.
Young catcher Alejandro Kirk is expected to miss six weeks due to a left hip flexor strain, sources told Sportsnet's Ben Wagner.
Manager Charlie Montoyo didn't offer any specifics with regard to a timeline, though he said Kirk's stint on the injured list will "for sure" be longer than 10 days, according to Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun.
Toronto placed Kirk on the IL on Sunday, one day after he suffered the ailment. The 21-year-old was heating up at the plate before getting hurt; he owns a .801 OPS in 17 games this season, and recorded his first career multi-homer game Friday.
Danny Jansen, who's struggled to hit so far this year, will likely get the lion's share of work behind the plate while Kirk is out. The Blue Jays recalled catching prospect Riley Adams on Sunday. Other internal options at the position could include veteran Juan Graterol and Reese McGuire, neither of whom are on the 40-man roster.
