San Diego Padres reliever Keone Kela will miss the rest of the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, the right-hander confirmed on Instagram.

Kela, who has been on the 10-day IL with a right forearm strain since May 8, posted a 5.06 ERA in 10 2/3 innings across 10 appearances after signing a one-year, $1.2-million deal this offseason.
An $800,000 team option for 2022 will now be triggered, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune notes. He should be available to return at some point next season.
The 28-year-old missed most of the 2020 season when he was a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates. However, Kela posted a 2.12 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in 29 2/3 innings of work in 2019.
