The Houston Astros' starting rotation will get some reinforcements for the team's upcoming series against the San Diego Padres.

Left-hander Framber Valdez and right-hander Jake Odorizzi will return for the weekend set, Astros manager Dusty Baker said Wednesday, according to Mark Berman of Fox News 26.

Valdez will make his season debut against San Diego on Friday, and Odorizzi will follow him Saturday before Zack Greinke starts Sunday.

Valdez hasn't pitched this season after fracturing a finger during spring training. There was some initial concern the Dominican hurler would miss the entire season, but he healed quicker than the Astros expected.

The 27-year-old pitched well for Houston last season, going 5-3 with a 2.85 FIP to earn down-ballot consideration for the American League Cy Young Award.

Odorizzi, meanwhile, returns after missing nearly a month with a forearm muscle strain. The 31-year-old made three starts for the Astros before going on the injured list, authoring a 10.13 ERA. Houston signed the veteran pitcher to a two-year, $23.5-million deal in March.

Baker also said the Astros are placing right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. on the 10-day IL with right shoulder soreness, according to Brian T. Smith of the Houston Chronicle. He added that the move is precautionary and that the 27-year-old isn't expected to miss much time.
