Indians trade Bauers to Mariners
The Cleveland Indians have traded first baseman/outfielder Jake Bauers to the Seattle Mariners for a player to be named later or cash considerations, the team announced.
Cleveland recently designated the 25-year-old for assignment.
Since being acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays prior to the 2019 season, Bauers has struggled to a .218/.305/.352 slash line with 14 homers and three stolen bases over 160 games.
Seattle first baseman Evan White is on the injured list with a strained hip flexor, and Ty France has taken over in his absence. France may move around the infield with Bauers in the fold.
The Mariners also recently lost Kyle Lewis to the injured list and demoted top prospect Jarred Kelenic to the minors. Seattle's outfield ranks 27th this season by FanGraphs' WAR.
