San Diego Padres infield prospect CJ Abrams will miss the rest of the 2021 season with a fractured left tibia and sprained MCL, according to MLB.com's AJ Cassavell.
Abrams suffered the injuries from a ninth-inning collision at second base during Wednesday's game.
The 20-year-old is San Diego's No. 2 prospect behind left-hander MacKenzie Gore and is ranked eighth in all of baseball by MLB Pipeline.
Abrams has spent the season with Double-A San Antonio, playing at his highest level in the minors to date. He didn't experience much in the way of growing pains before his injury, hitting .296/.363/.420 with a pair of home runs and 13 stolen bases in 42 games.
The Padres selected Abrams with the sixth-overall pick in the 2019 draft.
