Rockies manager: Marquez is not going to be traded
Although Colorado Rockies right-hander German Marquez is a popular name in trade rumors, manager Bud Black says his All-Star pitcher won't be dealt before the July 30 deadline.
"He's on a multi-year deal, so we have him for a couple more years. ... He's not going anywhere," Black told "Power Alley" on MLB Network Radio.
"Even though it might be out there, there might be some noise, we let our guys know these guys aren't going to be traded. That's how our owner feels, that's how so many people in our organization, who are the decision-makers, feel about German and a few other guys, too."
Marquez isn't eligible for free agency until 2024 after inking a five-year, $43-million extension with Colorado in 2019.
In 18 starts, the 26-year-old owns a 3.59 ERA and 3.41 FIP in 105 1/3 innings. He struck out 11 in his last start against the St. Louis Cardinals, which followed a near-no-hitter versus the Pittsburgh Pirates on June 29.
Opposing teams expressed interest in Marquez last month, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. He was also recently mentioned, along with teammate Jon Gray, as a potential trade target of the Toronto Blue Jays, according to TSN's Scott Mitchell.
Marquez earned his first-career All-Star berth Sunday.
