Braves sign d'Arnaud to 2-year, $16M contract

The Atlanta Braves signed catcher Travis d'Arnaud to a two-year, $16-million contract, the team announced Friday.

D'Arnaud will receive $8 million in each year of the deal, and his new contract includes an $8-million club option for 2024 with no buyout. Atlanta signed d'Arnaud to a similar two-year deal before the 2020 season.

The 32-year-old is hitting .223/.277/.369 with three home runs and 15 RBIs in 28 games this campaign. He missed significant time after suffering a torn ligament in his left thumb last May.

The California native posted a .321/.386/.533 slash line with 34 RBIs in 44 games for the Braves in 2020.

D'Arnaud's teammate Freddie Freeman approved of the pact on social media moments after it was announced.
