The injury bug continues to bite the New York Yankees, as the club placed shortstop Gleyber Torres on the 10-day injured list Monday with a left thumb sprain.

The Yankees expect Torres will be out roughly 10-20 days, a shorter span than originally anticipated, manager Aaron Boone said, according to ESPN's Marly Rivera. Torres will visit a specialist in the next few days to get a better idea of his timeline, Boone added.

Torres suffered the injury while stealing second base during the Yankees' win over the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. He remained in the game for a few innings afterward but was eventually removed and reportedly underwent an MRI.

"A little bit concerned about him right now," manager Aaron Boone said Sunday, according to Greg Joyce of the New York Post.

The 24-year-old has endured a disappointing season but had been heating up prior to the injury. Torres was hitting .300/.337/.500 with three homers across 22 games since the All-Star break.

Torres is the eighth Yankee to land on the IL this month. The team currently has 19 players on the IL, including 10 position players.

New York recalled right-hander Nick Nelson from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move. The team also selected infielder and Bronx native Andrew Velazquez from Scranton and added him to the active roster.
