Milwaukee Brewers ace Corbin Burnes tied an MLB record by striking out 10 straight batters in Wednesday night's game against the Chicago Cubs.

Burnes joins Hall of Famer Tom Seaver in 1970 and Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola from earlier this season as the only pitchers to ever fan that many consecutive opponents in a single contest.

Matt Duffy broke Burnes' streak with a single in the fifth inning.

Burnes kicked off the epic run at the start of the second frame. He didn't record a strikeout in the first inning because he managed to retire the side on a lean four pitches.

He became just the 11th pitcher to strike out nine straight in a game, which has now happened three times in 2021. In addition to Nola and Burnes, New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom punched out nine in a row in April.

As impressive as Burnes' strikeout parade was, he didn't let up the rest of the way, tossing eight shutout innings while allowing just four hits and walking none. His 15 strikeouts are second-most in franchise history in a single start behind only Ben Sheets, who sat down 18 in a start back in 2004.

The Cy Young hopeful entered Wednesday with an NL-best 12.50 K/9 among starters with at least 100 innings under their belts this season.
