Tatis to make 1st career outfield start vs. Diamondbacks
San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. is returning to the lineup for Sunday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks and will make his first career start in right field, the team announced.
Tatis has been out since July 30 after partially dislocating his shoulder. The Padres have considered keeping the talented 22-year-old in the outfield rather than at shortstop in an effort to keep him healthy.
Despite only playing in 87 of a possible 119 games, Tatis leads the National League with 31 home runs and 23 steals. He's also batting .297 and has driven in 70 runs.
Entering Sunday's matinee, the Padres sit third in the National League West with a 66-53 record. San Diego is currently 10 games back of the division-leading San Francisco Giants, and 2.5 games ahead of the Cincinnati Reds for the second NL wild-card spot.
