The Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles will play in the 2022 iteration of the Little League Classic on Aug. 21 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, the league announced Sunday.

The AL East rivals were expected to appear in the annual game during the 2020 season, but it was canceled due to the pandemic. The Red Sox and Orioles will now meet in the fifth version of the contest.

"We are thrilled to have been selected to participate in the Little League Classic next year," Orioles executive vice president and general manager Mike Elias said. "Our players and staff were very much looking forward to spending time with the next generation of players and fans at the 2020 event prior to its cancellation, so to have the opportunity to compete against the Red Sox next season at Historic Bowman Field while supporting the commissioner's efforts to grow the game is a tremendous honor for our club."

The inaugural game took place in 2017 between the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates, and the fourth version is set for Sunday evening between the Los Angeles Angels and Cleveland Indians.

The Little League Classic coincides with the annual Little League World Series.
