Giants claim Jose Quintana off waivers from Angels
The San Francisco Giants claimed Jose Quintana from the Los Angeles Angels on Monday after the veteran left-hander was placed on waivers, the Angels announced.
Quintana, 32, will be eligible for postseason play if he's added to the Giants' roster prior to Sept. 1.
The former All-Star authored a 6.75 ERA and 4.31 FIP over 53 1/3 innings with the Angels after signing a one-year, $8-million deal this past winter. For his career, Quintana owns a 3.83 ERA and 3.67 FIP and has worked primarily as a starter.
Quintana joins a Giants club that sits atop the league standings and boasts the sixth-best pitching staff in the majors, according to FanGraphs WAR. It's unclear whether San Francisco will move the lefty into the rotation or use him in relief, as the Angels did prior to waiving him.
