Dodgers' Muncy likely out of wild-card game, NLDS with elbow injury
Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Max Muncy was removed from Sunday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers after his left arm collided with Jace Peterson, who was trying to beat out an infield hit during the third inning.
The Dodgers said Muncy left because of a left elbow injury, but they provided no further details, according to Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times.
Following the game, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stated it's "very unlikely" that Muncy would be able to play Wednesday's wild-card game against the St. Louis Cardinals and that it's "unlikely" he'd be ready for the NLDS either, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.
Albert Pujols replaced Muncy defensively. Peterson was ruled out on interference.
The 31-year-old has been an integral part of the Dodgers' success as reigning champs this year, hitting .249/.368/.527 with 36 homers and a pair of steals. The two-time All-Star is expected to get NL MVP consideration.
Muncy could be Los Angeles' second big injury blow in the past few days. The team placed three-time Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw on the injured list with left forearm discomfort.
