Dodgers' Buehler takes responsibility for loss: 'This game is on me'
The Los Angeles Dodgers dropped Game 1 of their NLDS to their most bitter rivals Friday, and Walker Buehler is owning the "L."
"It's on me to try and create some momentum," the Dodgers right-hander said following the 4-0 loss to the San Francisco Giants, according to Blake Harris of True Blue L.A. "I kind of sucked that out of our dugout. This game is on me."
Buehler allowed three runs on six hits - including a pair of homers - and one walk while striking out five over 6 1/3 innings. The 27-year-old is expected to get Cy Young consideration this year but was simply outdueled by San Francisco starter Logan Webb. The Giants righty shut out the Dodgers over 7 2/3 innings and struck out 10 in a historic start.
Buehler made his most costly mistake in the first inning when he surrendered a two-run homer to Buster Posey on a 3-0 pitch.
"Buster has been in the game a long time," Buehler said, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. "I trusted him to swing 3-0. It was just a mistake heater in an area he can drive the ball."
Posey's 3-0 ambush didn't shock Dodgers manager Dave Roberts either. "I don't think anybody in the ballpark was surprised that (Posey) was swinging," Roberts said, according to Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area.
Game 2 gets underway Saturday at Oracle Park with left-hander Julio Urias slated to face Kevin Gausman.
