Seager wants to return to Dodgers: 'I believe in what these guys do'
The Los Angeles Dodgers' season ended Saturday with a loss to the Atlanta Braves in the National League Championship Series, and now it's time for them to turn their attention to a big piece of offseason business: attempting to re-sign Corey Seager.
The shortstop said he would like to return to Los Angeles if the possibility arises.
"Yeah. Absolutely. I grew up here. I've spent a lot of time here. I believe in what these guys do. I believe in how we go about it," he said, according to the Los Angeles Times' Bill Shaikin.
The 27-year-old is one of the top players available this winter after another solid campaign with the Dodgers and is expected to demand a lucrative long-term deal.
But Los Angeles has fellow middle infielder Trea Turner under contract for next season and is also set to enter 2022 with expensive commitments to Mookie Betts, Cody Bellinger, David Price, Justin Turner, and potentially Trevor Bauer.
Seager has positioned himself for a big free-agent payday after slashing .306/.394/.521 with 16 home runs, 22 doubles, and 57 RBIs in 95 games this season. He did miss more than a month with a fractured right hand after being hit by a pitch in May.
The native of Charlotte has spent his entire pro career with the Dodgers after they selected him in the first round of the 2012 draft.
He owns a .297/.367/.504 slash line with 104 homers, 164 doubles, and 364 RBIs over seven big-league seasons.
The two-time All-Star was also named NL Rookie of the Year in 2016 and was MVP of both the championship series and World Series during the 2020 playoffs.
