Report: Bauer won't opt out of Dodgers contract
Trevor Bauer doesn't plan to exercise the first opt-out of the three-year, $102-million deal he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers last winter, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.
The complex contract guarantees the right-hander at least $70 million over the first two years of the deal. The Dodgers will owe Bauer an additional $15-million buyout if he opts out next winter, pushing the two-year total to $85 million with $17 million left to earn over the full term of the contract.
Bauer, 30, hasn't pitched for the Dodgers since June 28 and has been on administrative leave while MLB investigates allegations of sexual assault. The Pasadena police department has concluded its investigation and handed over findings to the L.A. County district attorney's office. The district attorney has not yet decided whether to file charges against Bauer.
The 2020 National League Cy Young winner authored a 2.59 ERA and 4.03 FIP over 107 2/3 innings while making 17 starts in his first season with the Dodgers.
