Stroman criticizes Yankees during Twitter feud with fans
You can probably cross off the New York Yankees as a possible destination for free-agent right-hander Marcus Stroman.
Yankees fans were in an uproar after the 30-year-old essentially wrote off the idea of playing for the Bronx Bombers on Tuesday when he replied to a fan on Twitter.
Stroman is one of MLB's most outspoken players on social media, and he didn't hold anything back in responding to upset fans. He even called out the Yankees' inability to win a World Series in recent years despite a large payroll.
Stroman and the Yankees have a poor history. In 2019, general manager Brian Cashman said New York was interested in acquiring the right-hander from the Toronto Blue Jays at the trade deadline but added that he didn't think the pitcher would be a difference-maker. Instead, Cashman called Stroman a possible fit for the club's bullpen.
Cashman's words didn't sit well with Stroman, who revived an old tweet with his opinion about the Yankees last week.
Stroman is one of the better starting pitchers available in free agency after he had a solid campaign with the New York Mets last season. In 33 starts, he notched a 3.02 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 179 innings while finishing with the 14th-highest fWAR among NL starters.
