Report: Rockies have had discussions with Bryant

The Colorado Rockies appear to be serious about landing a big fish in free agency.

Colorado has had discussions with former NL MVP Kris Bryant, a source told Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

While interest is there, it's unclear how advanced talks may be. The sides also have a time crunch, as they'd have to get both a contract and physical done before the collective bargaining agreement expires at 11:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

The Las Vegas native is thought to be seeking a six-year deal in the range of $160 million-$170 million, according to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post.

Bryant would be a boon for a Rockies club that stumbled to a fourth-place finish this year and already lost Jon Gray in free agency. If shortstop Trevor Story - who Colorado would reportedly like to bring back - also walks away this winter, Bryant would become the team's veteran anchor.

The 29-year-old was an All-Star this past season, hitting .265/.353/.481 with 25 homers, 73 RBIs, and 10 steals across 144 games with the Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants. He's an extremely versatile player, splitting time evenly between his natural position of third base and all three outfield spots in 2021 while starting at least 10 games at five different positions.

Bryant said in October that he'd be open to re-signing with the Giants. The Seattle Mariners have also reportedly shown interest in him this winter.
