The door might not be closed on Carlos Correa returning to the Houston Astros.

Astros owner Jim Crane said the club remains hopeful of reaching a new contract with Correa, and they've contacted his representatives to discuss a deal.

"Our team has reached out to his agent," Crane told Fox's Mark Berman. "We're in discussions."

Houston reportedly offered Correa a five-year, $160-million contract in November.

The Detroit Tigers apparently made Correa a 10-year, $275-million offer before the lockout but eventually pivoted to a six-year deal with Javier Baez.

The Chicago Cubs have also reportedly shown serious interest in the 27-year-old this offseason. However, the club recently signed shortstop Andrelton Simmons, which could signal that they're no longer involved in the Correa sweepstakes.

Correa is arguably the top remaining free agent on the market. The two-time All-Star is coming off another stellar season in 2021, hitting .279/.366/.485 with 26 home runs, 92 RBIs, and 104 runs scored in 148 games. Correa also showcased his defensive prowess, earning the first Gold and Platinum Glove awards of his seven-year career.
