Rays' Fairbanks could miss several months due to lat injury
The Tampa Bay Rays will be without a big piece of their bullpen for the foreseeable future after right-hander Pete Fairbanks injured his lat muscle during a game on Sunday, reports the Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin.
Fairbanks underwent an MRI on Monday. While the diagnosis hasn't been revealed, he's been asked to avoid throwing for six weeks and could miss several months of the season.
The Rays will seek additional opinions before deciding their next steps.
Fairbanks missed 50 games last season with shoulder issues. When healthy, the 28-year-old's an effective member of Tampa Bay's bullpen. He owns a 3.53 ERA, 2.84 FIP, and 11.9 K/9 in 87 games for the Rays.
The Rays' bullpen endured a number of injuries last season to help the team win the AL East.
