Blue Jays' Springer called players-only meeting after loss to Yankees

With the Toronto Blue Jays amid their worst slump of the season, outfielder George Springer called a closed-door, players-only meeting following the team's loss to the New York Yankees on Wednesday.

"My main message was to slow down," Springer said Friday, according to Sportsnet's Hazel Mae. "It's all good. It's just baseball."

The Blue Jays enter a series with the Tampa Rays as losers of four straight contests and have dropped seven of their past nine games.

"I just thought it fit," Springer added about calling the meeting, according to Sportsnet's Shi Davidi.

Springer has started the season strong by hitting .283./344/.531 with seven home runs and 18 RBIs in 31 contests.

However, the Blue Jays lineup as a whole is struggling to produce of late. Toronto ranks 24th in wRC+, 26th in homers, and 21st in runs scored over this nine-game funk since May 2.
