Yankees transfer Donaldson from COVID-19 IL to 10-day IL with shoulder inflammation
The New York Yankees transferred third baseman Josh Donaldson from the COVID-19 injured list to the 10-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation, the team announced Friday.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Donaldson has been dealing with the soreness for a while and received a cortisone shot this week. "Hopefully it's something that is a short thing," Boone said, according to The Athletic's Lindsey Adler.
Donaldson is hitting .238/.349/.415 with five home runs and 15 RBIs in his first season with the Yankees after being acquired in a trade with the Minnesota Twins.
The 36-year-old apologized Thursday to Jackie Robinson's family for his comments to Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson during a game last Saturday. The league suspended Donaldson for one game due to the remarks.
Donaldson is appealing the suspension but is ineligible to serve it while on the injured list.
