Philadelphia Phillies infielder Jean Segura will miss 10-12 weeks following surgery on his fractured right index finger, the team announced, according to MLB.com's Todd Zolecki.

The Phillies placed Segura on the 10-day injured list earlier on Wednesday and designated outfielder Roman Quinn for assignment. The team then recalled both left-handed pitcher Cristopher Sanchez and infielder Nick Maton from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

The 32-year-old has been a key contributor while the club's struggled defensively. Segura has hit .275/.324/.407 with six homers and eight steals over 44 games played so far this season while exclusively playing second base.

As a team, the Phillies rank 24th in baseball, according to FanGraphs' defensive ratings. They're also second-last in throwing errors entering Thursday, committing 19 and sitting only ahead of the lowly Washington Nationals.

Segura sustained the injury Tuesday night against the San Francisco Giants after being hit by a pitch while attempting to bunt.

The two-time All-Star joins fellow middle infielder Didi Gregorius on Philadelphia's IL, as the shortstop sustained a sprained knee in early May. Gregorius is currently on a rehab assignment and could return soon.

Maton, Johan Camargo, and Bryson Stott are expected to fill in while Segura, who could return by September, remains sidelined.
