Tigers' Rodriguez placed on restricted list due to personal matters
Detroit Tigers left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez will not play for the foreseeable future, according to a team announcement released Monday.
"Eduardo Rodriguez has informed the club that due to personal matters, he will not rejoin the team at this time. As a result, Eduardo has been placed on the restricted list until further notice," Tigers general manager Al Avila said in a statement.
There is no additional information about what Rodriguez's personal matter is.
The Tigers expected the 29-year-old southpaw to be the ace of the starting staff this season after inking a five-year, $77-million contract last November.
Rodriguez is 1-3 with a 4.38 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in eight starts this campaign.
The former 19-game winner with the Boston Red Sox missed the entire 2020 season after developing a heart condition called myocarditis as a result of a COVID-19 infection.
