Mariners sign Winker through 2023 season
The Seattle Mariners and outfielder Jesse Winker agreed to terms through the 2023 campaign, the team announced Thursday.
Winker is earning $7 million this year and was slated to be arbitration-eligible for the final time this offseason.
He'll now earn $14.5 million over his new two-year deal, reports Robert Murray of FanSided.
The Mariners acquired Winker and infielder Eugenio Suarez from the Cincinnati Reds in a six-player deal in March.
The 28-year-old is struggling in his first season with Seattle, hitting .214/.326/.308 with four home runs, 19 runs scored, and 24 RBIs across 61 games.
After nearly making the playoffs in 2021, the Mariners' additions of Winker and Suarez, coupled with the signing of reigning American League Cy Young winner Robbie Ray, raised expectations this season. However, Seattle has underwhelmed thus far, sitting fourth in the AL West at 28-35.
