Washington Nationals outfielder Juan Soto and Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber will take part in the 2022 Home Run Derby during the All-Star festivities in Los Angeles, the pair announced Tuesday.
Soto and Schwarber join a growing field of competitors, including two-time champion Pete Alonso, Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr., and veteran slugger Albert Pujols.
The 23-year-old Nationals outfielder competed in the derby last season, beating Shohei Ohtani in the quarterfinals before falling to Alonso in the semis. He's hit 17 homers during the regular season.
This is Schwarber's first derby since 2018 when he still played for the Chicago Cubs. The Phillies standout leads the National League with 28 round-trippers.
