St. Louis Cardinals left-hander Genesis Cabrera apologized to manager Oliver Marmol and planned to do the same with his teammates after an incident during Friday's 7-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

"I was more frustrated about myself," Cabrera said, according to MLB.com's John Denton. "I've had two outings without throwing many pitches, and my emotions came out. That's something hopefully I will get better with. That's something I need to get better doing."

Cabrera slammed the ball into the mound as Marmol was set to remove him from the game after the reliever allowed consecutive singles to begin the ninth inning.

Marmol wrapped his arms around Cabrera and said something to the reliever before he angrily stormed off the mound.

"He's a little frustrated with how the last couple of days have gone," Marmol said after Friday's game. "At the same time, your ego can't get in the way of being a professional. I've known him a long time, he'll be just fine."

On Friday, Cabrera was scolded in the dugout by Cardinals veteran Albert Pujols, who also recommended the pitcher apologize to everyone for his behavior.

"Albert just told me that's the stuff that I shouldn't do and when I have the opportunity go and apologize to the team and Oli," Cabrera said.

The 25-year-old Dominican hurler has become an integral part of the Cardinals' bullpen since debuting in 2019. He's authored a 3.42 ERA and 9.7 K/9 over the past four seasons.
