Former WBC MVP Stroman to play for Puerto Rico in 2023

Chicago Cubs right-hander Marcus Stroman will play for Puerto Rico at the 2023 World Baseball Classic, the pitcher announced on Sunday.

The 31-year-old hurler pitched for Team USA at the 2017 edition of the tournament.
Stroman was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player in 2017 after posting a 2.35 ERA in three starts for the Americans, who wound up winning the event. He held Puerto Rico scoreless and allowed just one hit across six innings during USA's 8-0 win in the finals.
Stroman was born in Medford, New York. His mother is Puerto Rican.
