The San Diego Padres are giving struggling closer Josh Hader a break from the role, manager Bob Melvin said Saturday, according to The Athletic's Dennis Lin.

Melvin also added that the Padres will turn to a closer-by-committee approach as Hader looks to get back on track.

Hader has failed to find any success since coming to the Padres in a blockbuster deal with the Milwaukee Brewers on Aug. 1.

The 28-year-old owns a 16.20 ERA in five appearances and has yet to record a save for San Diego.

Hader's latest blowup occurred Friday when he failed to record an out after coming into a tie game in the ninth against the Washington Nationals. The four-time All-Star allowed a pair of hits and three runs to earn his fifth loss of the season.
