Report: Dodgers exercising Hudson's $6.5M option

The Los Angeles Dodgers are planning to exercise the $6.5-million team option on Daniel Hudson's contract, retaining the right-handed reliever for the 2023 season, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.

Hudson will likely get an additional $6.5-million team option for the 2024 campaign added to his deal, Passan adds.

The 35-year-old suffered a season-ending ACL tear in June but had been incredibly reliable up until that point. Making 25 appearances, the veteran authored a 2.22 ERA and 2.04 FIP over 24 1/3 innings in 2022. Hudson signed a one-year, $7-million deal plus a club option with Los Angeles before this season.

Hudson refined his strikeout approach over the past three years, racking up a 33.3% K rate over 96 2/3 innings. He also crucially reduced his walk rate this campaign with the Dodgers, surrendering merely 1.85 free passes per nine innings.

For his career, the former World Series champion owns a 3.81 ERA and 3.73 FIP over 479 appearances.
