Braves sign Strider to 6-year, $75M contract
The Atlanta Braves and rookie Spencer Strider agreed to a six-year, $75-million contract that keeps the right-hander with the franchise through at least the 2028 season.
The deal also includes a $22-million club option for the 2029 campaign with a $5-million buyout.
Strider will earn $1 million per season in 2023 and 2024, $4 million in 2025, $20 million in 2026, and $22 million in the 2027 and 2028 campaigns.
The Braves selected Strider in the fourth round of the 2020 MLB Draft. He made his big-league debut in 2021, posting a 3.86 ERA in a pair of appearances.
The electric hurler authored a breakout season in 2022. Strider emerged as a favorite for NL Rookie of the Year alongside teammate Michael Harris II. The 23-year-old posted an 11-5 record with a 2.67 ERA, 1.83 FIP, and 13.81 K/9 across 131 2/3 innings (31 appearances).
Strider missed the final two weeks of the regular season with an oblique injury. The Braves are hopeful he can return for their National League Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies.
