Report: Devers, Red Sox remain apart in extension talks

The Boston Red Sox and All-Star third baseman Rafael Devers are far apart in recent negotiations for a long-term contract extension, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.

The Red Sox upped their offer to more than $200 million, but Devers is said to be seeking at least a 10-year, $300 million deal, Heyman adds.

The Red Sox reportedly used Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson's eight-year, $168-million contract as a comparison when they discussed a new deal with Devers in spring training.

Devers is scheduled to reach free agency at the conclusion of the 2023 campaign.

The 26-year-old authored another terrific season at the plate in 2022 with 27 home runs, 88 RBIs, and an .879 OPS across 141 games.

The Red Sox face an uncertain offseason, with shortstop Xander Bogaerts and designated hitter J.D. Martinez expected to test free agency.
