The St. Louis Cardinals announced Matt Holliday will rejoin the organization as bench coach on Oliver Marmol's staff next season.

Holliday has never coached at the big-league level, but he recently served as an outfield and hitting coach for Oklahoma State.

He takes over the position previously held by Skip Schumaker, who was hired as manager of the Miami Marlins.

Holliday, who retired after the 2018 season, spent parts of eight seasons with St. Louis. The 42-year-old made four of his seven career All-Star Game appearances with the Cardinals and helped them win a World Series in 2011.

In addition to Holliday, the Cardinals hired Dusty Blake as pitching coach, Turner Ward as hitting coach, Brandon Allen as assistant hitting coach, and Julio Rangel as assistant pitching coach/bullpen.

Patrick Elkins, Stubby Clapp, Ron Warner, Willie McGee, Jamie Pogue, and Kleininger Teran are also returning to the coaching staff next season.
