Marlins trade Elieser Hernandez to Mets
The New York Mets acquired right-handers Elieser Hernandez and Jeff Brigham from the Miami Marlins in exchange for minor-league righty Franklin Sanchez and a player to be named later or cash, the team announced Friday.
Hernandez, 27, was recently designated for assignment to clear space on the Marlins' 40-man roster. The righty worked as a swingman last year, making 10 starts and 10 relief appearances, and posted a 6.35 ERA and 6.40 FIP over 62 1/3 innings. He is eligible for a second year of arbitration this winter.
Brigham, 31, is heading into his first year of arbitration eligibility and was also recently DFA'd. After missing 2021 due to injury, he made 16 relief appearances this year, authoring a 3.38 ERA and 3.65 FIP over 24 frames.
Sanchez is a 22-year-old relief prospect who earned a promotion to High-A last year. Across two minor-league levels, he owned a 3.79 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 35 2/3 innings.
