Report: Yankees, Red Sox contact Senga's representatives

The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are the latest clubs to show interest in star Japanese right-hander Kodai Senga.

Both teams have been in contact with Senga's representatives, sources told MLB Network's Jon Morosi.

The New York Mets also met with Senga last week, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.

Senga, 29, is one of the offseason's most fascinating free agents. The hurler had a career season in 2022, posting a 1.94 ERA and 156 strikeouts across 144 innings for the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks.

Signing Senga wouldn't cost a team a posting fee or draft-pick compensation, which has helped to strengthen the number of interested clubs, Morosi adds.

The Yankees have a strong foursome atop their rotation with Gerrit Cole, Nestor Cortes, Luis Severino, and Frankie Montas. However, they might need to replace free-agent right-hander Jameson Taillon.

The Red Sox currently have some uncertainty in their rotation. Left-hander Chris Sale is expected to return following an injury-plagued 2022 campaign, but Boston starters ranked 17th in K/9, 18th in fWAR, and 22nd in ERA last season.
