Report: Pirates ink Jarlin Garcia, Vince Velasquez to 1-year deals
The Pittsburgh Pirates and left-handed reliever Jarlin Garcia are in agreement on a one-year, $2.5-million contract, according to The Athletic's Rob Biertempfel.
The contract is pending a physical and carries a $3.25-million club option for the 2024 campaign, reports Biertempfel.
Pittsburgh has also inked right-hander Vince Velasquez to a one-year, $3.15-million contract, a source told FanSided's Robert Murray.
Velasquez, 30, posted a 3-3 record with a 4.78 ERA, 4.25 FIP, and 8.24 K/9 across 27 appearances (nine starts) for the Chicago White Sox last season.
Garcia, 29, spent the last three seasons with the San Francisco Giants after three campaigns with the Miami Marlins. He emerged as an effective relief option for the Giants, posting a 2.84 ERA with 138 strikeouts across 152 total innings with San Francisco.
Pittsburgh will look to Garcia to bolster a bullpen that struggled in 2022. Pirates relievers combined to finish 29th in ERA (4.72) and 27th in K/9 (8.19) last season.
