Report: Red Sox, Justin Turner agree to 1-year, $15M deal
The Boston Red Sox have added veteran third baseman Justin Turner.
The agreement is reportedly a one-year deal plus a player option for 2024 that guarantees Turner at least $15 million, sources told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.
A clarification on this: If Turner declines the player option, he’d get a buyout of roughly $7M - meaning about $15M for one year (as @Ken_Rosenthal reported), or $21.7M for two. https://t.co/4gHPKYdcxJ

Turner could also make an additional $200,000 each for reaching 480, 500, 520, 540, and 560 plate appearances in the first season of the deal.
Turner, 38, played the last nine seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, helping lead them to a 2020 World Series championship. The two-time All-Star hit .278/.350/.438 with 13 homers and three steals over 128 games last season.
Current Red Sox outfielder and former teammate of Turner with the Dodgers Enrique Hernandez seems excited about the reported deal:

A 14-year veteran, Turner didn't bloom into a star-level slugger until he was non-tendered by the New York Mets and joined the Dodgers at age 29. Turner possesses a .832 OPS (126 OPS+) since first breaking into the majors with the Baltimore Orioles back in 2009.
Turner could be forced to move off his natural position with his new team, as two-time All-Star and 26-year-old Rafael Devers currently plays third base for the Red Sox. Devers can test free agency next winter.
The reported Turner signing comes one day after the Dodgers poached former Red Sox slugger J.D. Martinez via free agency on a one-year, $10-million deal. Turner could inherit Martinez's spot as the starting designated hitter.
Turner hit the open market when the Dodgers rejected his $16-million option, instead paying a $2-million buyout.
