Report: Angels, Padres among teams interested in Eovaldi
The Los Angeles Angels and San Diego Padres are among the teams showing significant interest in free-agent right-hander Nathan Eovaldi, whose market appears to be heating up, sources told Rob Bradford of WEEI.
At least one other team - believed to be in the American League - is also involved, Bradford reports.
The Boston Red Sox, who employed Eovaldi over the last four-and-a-half seasons, are not considered front-runners to retain his services.
Eovaldi, 32, began his offseason by rejecting Boston's one-year, $19.65-million qualifying offer, which ensures the righty is attached to draft-pick compensation.
Last year, the former All-Star authored a 3.87 ERA and 4.30 FIP over 109 1/3 innings, making 20 starts. Over his 11-year career, he boasts a 4.16 ERA and 3.83 FIP, making 221 starts and 19 relief appearances. He missed the entire 2017 campaign due to Tommy John surgery.
The Angels have already added lefty Tyler Anderson to their rotation this winter while losing Michael Lorenzen via free agency.
The Padres, meanwhile, have lost Michael Clevinger and Sean Manaea on the open market without making any genuine additions to the rotation. They still boast impressive starter depth with Yu Darvish, Joe Musgrove, and Blake Snell leading. Recent signee Seth Lugo could act as a starter or reliever.
