The Milwaukee Brewers have agreed to a one-year, $4.5-million contract with free-agent left-hander Wade Miley, a source told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
The deal also contains incentives that could push the total value to $6 million, Rosenthal reports.
This will be Miley's second go-around with the Brewers, having previously pitched there in 2018. He revitalized his career during his first stint in Milwaukee, posting a career-best 2.57 ERA in 16 starts for the eventual NL Central champions before allowing just two earned runs in four playoff starts.
The 36-year-old is hoping to once again find his old form in the Cream City following a rough 2022 campaign with the Chicago Cubs. Elbow and shoulder injuries limited Miley to just 37 innings for the Cubs last year.
Miley joins Eric Lauer and Aaron Ashby as left-handed options at the back of the Brewers' rotation behind aces Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff. His presence could push Ashby, a young southpaw who started in 19 of his 27 appearances last season, into a swingman role.
For his career, Miley owns a lifetime 99-94 record with a 4.13 ERA, 4.10 FIP, and 1,280 strikeouts across parts of 12 seasons with eight teams. The Louisiana native was an All-Star with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2012 and threw a no-hitter for the Cincinnati Reds in 2021.
Miley is just the second player to sign a big-league contract with Milwaukee this offseason and the first with experience in the majors. The team's only other signing was outfielder Blake Perkins, who's yet to make his MLB debut, on a one-year contract for the league-minimum salary.
