Giants sign Luke Jackson to 2-year deal, complete trade with Phillies
The San Francisco Giants made a couple of moves on Monday, signing right-hander Luke Jackson to a two-year deal and trading right-hander Yunior Marte to the Philadelphia Phillies for left-hander Erik Miller, the team announced.
Jackson's deal is worth $11.5 million with a club option for 2025, reports the San Francisco Chronicle's John Shea.
The 31-year-old Jackson missed the entire 2022 campaign after having Tommy John surgery. He announced in October he was cleared to begin a throwing program and is expected to return to pitching in the early part of the 2023 season.
Prior to the procedure, the Florida native posted a 1.98 ERA and 9.9 K/9 in 71 appearances during the Atlanta Braves' World Series-winning campaign in 2021.
Marte was traded to the Phillies to clear a roster spot for Jackson. The hard-throwing right-hander was once viewed as a potential closer of the future for the Giants but struggled in his first big-league season last year. The 27-year-old posted a 5.44 ERA and 4.1 BB/9 in 48 innings for the Giants.
Miller has never appeared in the majors. The 24-year-old southpaw authored a 3.54 ERA and 11.5 K/9 in 48 1/3 innings across two minor-league levels last season.
