Report: Yankees have discussed signing Profar
The New York Yankees have discussed signing free-agent outfielder Jurickson Profar, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.
However, New York is insistent on not going over the "Steve Cohen" luxury-tax threshold of $293 million to sign the 29-year-old, Heyman adds. The Yankees' payroll is sitting around $290 million.
Profar appeared in a career-high 152 games for the San Diego Padres last season, his third with them. The switch-hitter slashed .243/.331/.391 with 15 home runs, 36 doubles, and 58 RBIs with 140 hits.
While the Curacao native spent most of his time in left field last season, he has appeared at seven different positions throughout his career.
The Yankees are projected to begin the 2023 campaign with an outfield of Aaron Judge, Harrison Bader, and Oswaldo Cabrera.
Their bench consists of backup catcher Kyle Higashioka, infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa, and outfielder Aaron Hicks, with DJ LeMahieu in a super-utility role.
