Altuve wants to stay with Astros: 'I hope to retire here'
Second baseman Jose Altuve has spent his 12-year career with the Houston Astros and hopes to remain with the franchise for good.
New Astros general manager Dana Brown said earlier this week that he wants both Altuve and third baseman Alex Bregman to spend their entire careers in Houston.
Altuve appreciated Brown's comments and emphasized how much he wants to finish with the only club he's played for.
"It's very special. I like it when he says that because I hope to retire here," Altuve said Sunday, according to John McClain of Gallery Sports. "The most important thing is we are on the same page. I want to stay here, so it’s really good to hear that."
Altuve has two seasons remaining on the seven-year, $163.5-million deal he inked in 2018.
The 32-year-old has established himself as one of the best players in Astros history, becoming an eight-time All-Star, one-time AL MVP, and two-time World Series champion.
Altuve owns a lifetime .307/.362/.468 slash line with 192 home runs, 696 RBIs, and 279 stolen bases across 1,578 games.
